How To Have a Low Key Wedding

I feel like every year is the “last year” my friends all get engaged during the holidays and then have all of their weddings. But every holiday season someone else on Facebook comes out of the woodwork with a ring and save the date.

Which I absolutely love! I love to see more and more of my friends and loved ones find happiness, and wish to share that with the world.

But, I have also noticed another trend recently. The trend for a low key wedding.

As we come into 2023, more and more of my friends and colleagues are talking about how they can either save money and do something that’s off the grid. How can they enjoy something for its inherent beauty and value without needing to make sure they also let everyone know on social media and make it as beautiful and pristine and (eventually) expensive as possible?

Not to mention the added benefits of a low key wedding on your mental health.

With that said, let’s talk about it!

How To Have A Low Key Wedding

Low Key Venue = Low Key Wedding

It’s really nuts to think of how much a venue can set the tone for the wedding planning process as a whole. And a big part of that is what level of intimacy you’re looking for with your space!

If you’re looking for something that’s more intimate and low key, but also want to transport your guests somewhere new, try looking for a rooftop at your favorite bar.

Need something with more green? A remote spot in a beautiful state park is always a good idea (not to mention very budget friendly!).

How about the ultimate low key wedding locale? Gettin’ hitched in a backyard never hurts, and sometimes that’s the best place. A spot with friends and family to think back on fond memories and look forward to the future.

Keep It Simple! All Around!

Low key brings simplicity. So keep your ideas simple for the food and drink.

An iced cooler of your favorite beverages, with some pre-mixed cocktails ready to go for the bevs.

Charcuteries and other comfort bites for the food. Doesn’t need to be a full 3-course meal to be perfect for the occasion and just as delicious.

Keep the attire cocktail level, or summer dinner party. You don’t need rented tuxes for a wedding to be exactly what it needs to be.

Do you have a DJ? Or just a Spotify playlist of your favorite songs?

Have You Tried Eloping?

Sometimes this is all you need. Remember, this wedding is for you and your partner. And sometimes, you just need you two, a friend or two for a witness, and Elvis (or whomever marries you at your eloping destination).
